Care & Maintenance

Your acacia wood is a natural material. A few minutes of care each month keeps it smooth, strong, and good-looking for years.

OILING YOUR WOOD

  1. Oil when it looks dry. For boards you use often, that’s about once a month. For trays, coasters, and utensils, every 1-2 months is enough. A dull or pale look means the wood is thirsty.
  2. Start clean and dry. The surface should be free of food, grease, and moisture before you oil.
  3. Apply a thin, even coat of food-safe mineral oil with a clean cloth, covering every side, including the edges and the underside.
  4. Let it soak in for a few hours or overnight, then wipe off any excess. Add a little more oil to any spots that still look dry.
  5. Don’t over-oil. A thin coat is enough, and extra oil just sits on the surface and feels sticky.

CLEANING

  1. Scrape off food debris with a spatula or the back of a knife.
  2. Wash by hand with a soft sponge, mild dish soap, and warm water.
  3. Rinse quickly. Don’t let it sit in water.
  4. Dry right away with a clean towel on every side.
  5. Stand it on its edge to air dry fully before storing it. Don’t lay it flat and wet on a counter.

CARING FOR YOUR BOARD

  • Use the whole surface and flip reversible boards from time to time, so the wear is even.
  • Light scratches or roughness can be smoothed with fine-grit sandpaper (around 200). Sand with the grain, wipe off the dust, and re-oil.
  • Use a damp cloth with a little lemon juice and coarse salt on stains and smells. Rinse, dry, and re-oil.

PLEASE AVOID

  • Dishwashers and soaking. Water and high heat are the main causes of cracking and warping.
  • Leaving it wet or standing liquids on the surface for long periods.
  • Hot pots and pans placed directly on the wood.
  • Harsh cleaners and bleach, which can dry and discolor the wood.
  • Direct sunlight or heat sources such as radiators and stove tops.
  • Cleavers and serrated knives on cutting boards, since they can chip the surface.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • Small differences in color and grain are natural and make each piece unique.
  • Fine knife marks are normal with use and don’t affect performance.
  • Damage from soaking, dishwashers, heat, or misuse isn’t covered by our warranty.
